First Visit

What Information will I need to provide?

On arrival we will ask you to fill out a medical history questionnaire, so we can tailor the treatment provided to your individual needs. Some of the Information required includes:

  1. Name of your Doctor
  2. Any allergies you have
  3. Any medication you are taking
  4. Any treatment you are currently under going

What will happen in the surgery?

The orthodontist will discuss with you and your parent/guardian:

  1. Your medical history
  2. Your main concerns regarding your teeth
  3. Dental history
  4. Personal history – things that may affect treatment such as contact sports, playing musical instruments, or religious beliefs

The orthodontist will then ask to have a look at your teeth and will assess your need for treatment.

What happens if I am ready to start treatment?

The orthodontist will explain:

1. The options for treatment and which is the best for you.
2. The risks and benefits of treatment.
3. The average length of time the treatment takes.
4. The commitment needed on your part if treatment is to be successful.
5. When you can expect the treatment to begin. At this point you will be given the chance to ask any questions.

If you would like to go ahead with the treatment, the orthodontist will give you a consent form outlining the planned treatment, and the previously discussed risks and benefits, this will need to be signed and returned before treatment begins.

When will treatment start?

This will depend on:

1. How many of your adult teeth have come through. Many treatments are best left until the adult teeth have replaced the first teeth.
2. Problems with toothbrushing or tooth decay which may have to be dealt with.
3. The length of any waiting list for the particular orthodontic treatment you need.
4. The degree of urgency for your particular case. For example, certain types of bite are best treated while you are growing fast and would be given priority. Other types of treatment may need to be delayed until growth of the face has almost stopped.Your orthodontist will explain the exact timing of the treatment for you.

Who will carry out the treatment?

Mrs. M.E Lammiman and her team will provide your treatment.

If you have any further questions that you feel you would like to ask, then please write them down and bring them with you to your next appointment or call the practice, all our staff are trained to answer your questions.
